Show Broncos Defeat Badgers To Clinch Title The College of Southern Utah baseball team clinched the southern division championship last Thursday, easily defeating the Snow College Badgers in the deciding game by a score of 13 to 7. The margin of victory was greater than the score would indicate because the Broncos definitely def-initely relaxed after having run up a 12 to 2 lead in the first six innings of play. The victory was the fifth without with-out a loss for Coach Cleo Potty's Pot-ty's CSU squad. Snow had defeated de-feated the winless Dixie Rebels twice, one of the victories com-irg com-irg the night before in St. George, when the Badgers came from behind to win by a margin of 11 to 9. Division Play Ends The southern division play will come to an end this week with Snow meeting Carbon in two games and Dixie and CSU tangling tan-gling today on the Cedar City diamond. C S U is in first place without a loss, and Dixie is in last place without a victory, but a tough game Is expected today nevertheless. The Rebels will put eerything they can Into the game in an effort to spoil the Bronco's unbeaten recocrd, and also al-so to regain possession of the "battle axe," C S U-Dixie athletic athle-tic trophy. In the game against Snow, good hitting and fine defensive play, coupled with excellent pitching by Jack Shipp and rather rath-er indifferent play by the Badgers Bad-gers made a run-away of the early ear-ly part of the game. Only after the Broncos pushed into a commanding com-manding 10 point lead and "let down" were the visitors able to make any showing at all against Petty's squad. A late game surge gave the Badgers an even break in hits, and allowed them to score five runs, but the Broncos were r.ever in danger. |
