Show High School Track Team Denied Meet Notice The Cedar City High School truck team was left at the starting start-ing lne of the Utah High School Relay Carnival this week, but because of no fault of the team, the coach or the school. The relay carnival, in which several Cedar City High School teams were entered, was to have been staged Saturday at Provo. However, bad weather forced a postponement. Coach Glen Jack-' son r.nd his team members had traveled as far as Beaver before word reached them of the postponement. post-ponement. They returned home to awiit notification of the new date, a notification that never reached them. The meet was held Monday in Trovo, but the first and only information in-formation the Cedar athletes or Coach Jackson had about the new da:e was when they read it in the Salt Lake Tribune Monday Mon-day morning. This, of course, was much too late for the Cedar entries en-tries to get to Provo in time for the events, so the local school did not participate. We have been unable to learn why Coach Jackson was not notified, noti-fied, or what caused the failure of the activities association to notify the Cedar City coach. Apparently Ap-parently the association depended depend-ed on newspaper articles to inform in-form the various teams. Perhaps Coach Jackson should send his phone number to the secretary of the association. Other Region Six teams were apparently notified, or received the paper in time to get to Provo Pro-vo for the meet, because Millard, Delta and Beaver teams participated. partici-pated. Of course, the Salt Lake paper would arrive in Beaver at least an hour earlier than in Cedar, and then the Cedar athletes ath-letes would need at least an extra ex-tra hour of traveling time. This two hour delay made it impossible impossi-ble for the Cedar squad to parti-cipaic. |
