Show CSUDramaDept. ; To Present ' Outstanding Play "The Glass Menagerie," one of the great plays in the history of the American theatre, written by the fabulous Tennessee Williams, will be presented on stage by the College of Southern Utah on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 13, 14 and 15, Twain Tippetts, Tip-petts, director, reminded residents today. Trobably one of the most talented tal-ented casts in a number of years at the college has been gathered for the presentation of the play, headed by Mrs. Elaine South-wick. South-wick. Students of the college, including in-cluding Erleene Steele, Delta; Keith Tattersall, Beaver, and Robert Frame, Cedar City hold supporting roles. Harold Hickman, Beaver, assistant as-sistant director and production manager, has succeeded in effecting ef-fecting a "space lighting" system sys-tem with unique props for the famous production. Mr. Tippetts reported this week the original music arrangements used during the play's run on Broadway in 1945 would arrive this week to put the finishing touches to the play. Highly Imaginative lines, almost al-most like poetry, add interest to the presentation, as proven by the number of critic awards garnered gar-nered while on the Broadway stage. Local residents will be interested inter-ested to know that the play will be the farewall performance in the old college auditorium, with all future productions to be held in the new library-auditorium that is presently under construction. construc-tion. Kumor also has it that Prof. Tippetts will be directing his last performance for two years as well. Although it is not official, offi-cial, it is believed that the prof, will leave CSU to study for a year or two. All will remember his productions of "I Remember Mama." "Hamlet," "Joan of Lorraine," Lor-raine," and "What A Life." Thursday evening the "Glass Menagerie" will be staged for students of C S U and faculty members. Friday and Saturday perfoimances will be open to the public. Tatrons are encouraged to arrive ar-rive at 8 p. m. to study the program pro-gram for in the 20 scenes of the play the curtain will be drawn only once. The curtain will raise at 8:15 for all performances, Prof. Tippetts stated. |
