Show ParagonahGirl Receives Oil Scholarship i : '! ' .. . X i " .v ' - ' i f W I ' I f SHIRLEY ROBINSON Shirley Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Revere Robinson Robin-son of Paragonah, was notified this week that she had been selected se-lected as the recipient of one of the Standard Oil Company scholarships schol-arships given each year for outstanding out-standing work in 411. Five scholarships are given by Standard Oil each year in the state, varying from $350 to $200. Miss Robinson won top honors and was awarded the scholarship for $350 to the school of her choice in the field of home economics. This is the third Standard Oil scholarship won in Iron County and the first one for the top amount, $350. Alvin Cox was awarded a scholarship under the program for $300, according to Stephen L. Brower, Iron County extension agent. Kendall Lister of Tarowan won a Standard Oil scholarship last year in the FFA division for $250. Miss Robinson won the coveted scholarship on the basis of achievement in 4-H work plus leadership. During her 4-H Career she has led a group for two years and has acted as junior assistant leader for one year. Miss Robinson has a long list of achievements. In her first introduction in-troduction to 4-H Club work at 10 years of age she participated in a group studying cooking. They were so successful in the first year of the organization that they carried the project for four years during which time they won blue ribbons in every county fair and won a red ribbon on a state basis at the state fair. In 1919 Miss Robinson began her clothing project by making a dress and an apron and she received re-ceived a blue ribbon in not only the county but the state fair as wdl for her outstanding workmanship. work-manship. This success story in 4-H has continued to the present date eno although she has not parti cipated individually every year she has taught other groups who have almost equalled her blue ribbon accomplishments under her sure guidance. She has attended the Leader Training School at Logan and to this date enjoyes the benefits from her 411 projects and work. She states, "I hope that I can encourage younger boys and girls to take 4-H and enjoy the thrills and education that comes from it." |
