Show AUTQ INDUSTRY IS III BASIC Import Manifest by Attitude Atti-tude of United States in Making Probe. "The action of the council of national defense in naming the automobile industry as one of the eight basic industries from "which facts and figures were desired for use at the labor and industrial conference, called by President Wilson at Washington as the best possible remedy for the high cost of living, is not only a positive recognition of the automobile industry, but proves that the products which this industry produces pro-duces have become basic utilities in the production and transportation of all other products," savs W. H. White of the Inter-Mountain Motor Car company, com-pany, local Kissel distributor. "Take the other seven basic industries, indus-tries, steel, cotton, wool, food, industrial indus-trial construction, ship building, road and bridge construction. All of these industries depend to a great extent on the motor truck as well as the automobile auto-mobile 'in the transportation of materials, mate-rials, supplies, equipment, men, and othor factors that enter into their distributing dis-tributing activities. "Without the motor truck, steel products, bales of cotton and wool, tons of food, construction equipment, tools and materials for shipbuilding, and the men, and equipment for road and bridge construction work could not be economically transported. "It is natural, therefore, when the leading and prominent executives in 'he eight basic industries start their inference, the object of which is to 'duce the hieh cost of living, that 'hey would want facts and figures on iust how the motor truck and the automobile au-tomobile help in keeping high prices down. Without a doubt there will be such a mass of figures and statistics 'hat prove the economy of the automobile automo-bile and motor truck, that in the final analysis, when the plans of the conference con-ference have been apnroved by the members, passed by the senate and siened by the president, you wiU find the automobile and the motor truck interwoven in-terwoven throughout the final plans, recommended bythe conference as the logical ones to help reduce the high cost of living." |
