Show Prospects for Favorable Action Ac-tion by Senate on Measure Mea-sure Excellent. Information that the house had passed the Haw-lay resolution exempting all mining min-ing claims from assessment work for the year 1!U9, was received in the following telegram to A. G. Mackenzie, secretary of the Utah chapter of the American Mining Min-ing congress, from Congressman M. 1 1. Welllpg: - . "Bill passed house today oKerfepting all mining claims from assessment work in 1)J9." This action is a distinct reversal of attitude on the part of the house. Only a few weeks ago congressmen in touch with affairs in the house felt that the hope ot passing Congressman Hawley's house joint resolution No. ISo, exempting all mining claims from assessment work, was hopeless. Information received by Mr. Mackenzie this week from Senator King- Stated that the chances of passing the bill in the senate wore good, but it was anticipated that the resolution might hpve a stormy trip through the house'. AJready a similar simi-lar resolution Introduced by .Senator Snu.ot is before tb senate. The purpose and effect of the resolutions resolu-tions Introduced by Senator Smool and Congressman Flawley is to eliminate the five-claim II mi tut ion from house, joint resolution No. 150, which was approved August l6 by President Wilson, but which has been found to be inadequate to meet existing- conditions in mining regions. "Both our senators and both our representatives repre-sentatives have been doing excellent work for the exemption of mining claims for 1 9 1 J. ever since (he chapter brought t he imperative need for such provinlou to their attention. snid Mr. Mackenzie yesterday. "At present there Is pood reason for be-j be-j living that claim owners will receive needled need-led relief. A few weeks ago it looked as if there were no hope. but. M r, Welling. I who is a member of the house t-oinmlttee Ion mines anil mining, succeeded In having the committee make a favorable report upon the mine exemption assessment." |
