Both sides in the Harris Har-ris murder trial finally rested their cases today, and arguments wttl begin at & o'clock next Monday morning. ' Arguments Argu-ments will be made by the various attorneys attor-neys in the following order: District Attorney At-torney A. O. Murdock for the prosecution; T. H. Burton for the defense; W. A. C. Bryan for the prosecution; E. O. Leather-wood Leather-wood and D. N. Straup for the defense ; W. W. Warner for tho prosecution. Today's hearing was devoted to odds and ends of testimony. Mrs. Cone, widow of the slain ranchman, was on the stand for a few minutes. Mrs. Cone denied that her husband shook his fist at Mrs. Harris or called her vile names when she appeared at the Cone ranch, July 13, 1917, to advise Cone that she bad taken up some of his cattle and demanded damages. Mrs. Cone was the last witness called by the prosecution tn rebuttal. Other witnesses called during the day in. the order of their testimony, were Deputy Sheriff J. W. Sabey, John Kooy-man, Kooy-man, 'W illiam Kearney, otto Kearney and, John Stevens. Sabey testified that the only time that Tackman left him after he was wounded and conveyed to the porch of the Harris home, wa.s when he went to crank the automobile. John Kooyman, 15 years of age, testified testi-fied that he wag at the Hsrris ranch July 14. 1917. when Cone went there to recover possession of the cattle which the Harrises Har-rises had impounded. Kooynian said Mrs. Harris sat upon the bars and that Cone pulled her away, whereupon she called for her sons and they came from the house, Inland being armed with a rifle, which he drew on Cone. Cone, the witness said, drew his own gun and told Leland that he would shoot unless he put down his rifle. Leland then turned the rifle over to Eugene, the witness wit-ness said, and Eugene went around into a ditch and kept the gun leveled on Cone, until Cone and Mrs. HarrL- had adjusted their differences. On cross-examination, the defense endeavored en-deavored to show that Kooyman had been recently arrested in N'ephi, but the objection objec-tion was mad. to the preliminary questions ques-tions and the court ruled with the prosecution. prose-cution. William Kearney testified that the "reputation "repu-tation of Eugene Harris for peace and quiet was bad, but said he did not know as to Iceland's reputation. Otto Kearney testified that the reputations reputa-tions of both boys were bad. John Stevens testified that he was at the Cone ranch at the time testified to by Mrs. Cone, and gave similar testimony. On cross-examination he admitted that he was interested in the case and was a-sift'ng a-sift'ng in the payment of Y. YS Warner, special counsel for the prosecution. |
