Show CAlP liEffl ! BECOMES ACTIVE Campaign of Development Work Started on Several Sev-eral Properties. Considerable attention Is being paid ,to the old-new mining camp of Marrietta, situated near Mlna and Candeleria, according ac-cording to the Tonopah Dally Times. In the early 80'a large shipments of silver oro were made by mule team to the nearest railroad at Wads worth, a distance dis-tance of 200 miles. From the Black Hawk claim, so history reads, one mule team load of ore netted the owners $10,000. Today, on account of the high price of silver, the owners of several large groups of claims in tho Marietta district are vigorously digging to produce more silver. sil-ver. The Merced group of claims, recently taken over by San Francisco capitalists, Is being stocked with supplies so as to do extensive work this winter. Manager B. B. Sheppard has ft crew of men erecting erect-ing an olf ice, boarding house and bunk house on the property. As soon as these 1-uildings are completed the work on the sliver deposits will commence. Captain Whiting and associates of the Black Mountain Silver Mining company have taken over Abe Wolfe's holdings and are sinking a shaft on a three-foot ledge that runs from $100 to $500 in silver sil-ver per ton. Mr. Whiting recently returned re-turned from Reno with a three -too truck to be used to handle ore to the railroad and bring supplies to the mine. Adjoining the Merced claims are five full claims owned and operated by the Silver Center Mining company. Ten years ago R. C. Miller and associates shipped ore from this property that brought returns of 800 ounces in silver. The vefn is about five feet wide and traceable for 2000 feet. The walls of this ledge are well defined, which makes it one of the most promising properties in the Marrietta district. Superintendent H. K. Skinner of the Silver Gulch Mining company reports everything progressing at the mine. A carload of high grade galena ore is ready for shipment to the smelter. The company com-pany intends to sink a shaft to a depth of 500 feet. A group of five claims known as the "Rockies," adjacent to the Endowment Mines company and owned by the Miller brothers, in doing the location work, discovered dis-covered two feet of high grade ore that runs way up in the hundreds. They intend in-tend to sink on the ledge at an early date. The Venture group is also owned by the Miller brothers. This group consists of three claims lying east of the Silver Gulch group. Judging from the large size of the galena ore pile, the company is not losing much time in getting out the high grade. This property has produced pro-duced in the neighborhood of $30,000. Some twelve years ago A. A. Base discovered the Ibex mine, located about six miles southwest from Marrietta. The production from this mine is estimated a $40,000. Another shipment is on the dump that is valued at $300 a ton in silver. sil-ver. Tho ore comes from the 400-foot tunnel. Joe Ruddy, the well known prospector and ranch man from Marrietta, is negotiating nego-tiating with a Tonopah concern for a five-stamp quartz mill which he intends erecting on his Golden Arie mine. Half a mile north of Marrietta there is an abundance of $10 free milling ore on the dump. Jamps Plant, who had a lease and bond on the Lucky Boy mfne at Hawthorne Haw-thorne twelve years ago. Is now operating operat-ing the Foster mine, northeast of Marrietta. Marri-etta. Charles Dodge is associated with Mr. Plant in this venture. They report that everything is moving ahead In a workmanlike manner at the mine, on which they have discovered a ledge sixty feet wide with fair grade ore, with several sev-eral streaks of high grade galena running run-ning through the ledge. Last week Monsieurs Neely and Baker, organizers of the Silver Tone Mining company, arrived in camp with a crew of men and surveyors to start work on their property and have their claims surveyed. sur-veyed. H. M. Harhlin, general manager of the Nevada Black Hawk Silver Mining company, com-pany, reports late development work on the company's ground has shown up pay ore In several places on the surface. Preparations are being made for extensive exten-sive work to get under the rich ore shoots that have been demonstrated by recent prosnecting. The Black Hawk mine In early days shipped over $200,000 worth of silver ore practically from surface workings and with crude mining. This same rich ore shoot can be tapped at a depth of 300 feet by running a 500-foot tunnel, which also will crosscut three other veins that carry excellent values. |
