Show . f First Meeting of City Federation The first fall meeting of the City Federation of Women's clubs was held at the Commercial club on Monday afternoon. aft-ernoon. Volunteer committees for special spe-cial Red Cross and conservation work had been appointed at tho last meeting, on June 7, and reports from these committees com-mittees were heard. All of the twenty clubs, of which the Federation is composed, com-posed, reported that they had cither formed Red Cross units early in the summer or that their members had joined auxiliaries already formed. It appeared that the club women had been "doing their bit" knitting and sewing for the sailor and soldier boys during the warm summer months. Mes. W. F. Adams, who reported for the conservation committee, showed that in the face of opposition the market mar-ket had been kept open and that it had been instrumental in keeping the price of vegetables and fruits w-ithin reasonable . bounds. In the demonstration demonstra-tion kitchen, or conservation plant 4-500 jars of fruit and vegetables had been put up during July and August. Tbe work clone in tbe conservation plant was largely voluntary, only two salaries having been paid. P. J. Sanders San-ders and Mrs. Duffin were the salaried workers. . A vote of thanks for her unflagging un-flagging devotion to tho conservation work throughout the summer was given Mrs. Adams by her fellow club women. A resolution introduced by Mrs. Gene Blakelv, pledging the women of the Federation to order groceries, meats and dry goods not oftener than once a day, and to carry their own parcels par-cels home'wheue er possible, was adopted. adopt-ed. It was the. opinion of the. women of the Federation that if all women were careful to place their orders early in the day, so that fewer trips need be made by "delivery wagons, a step would be taken toward reducing the high cost of provisions. Plans for entertaining the State Federation Fed-eration on October 2-t-25 were discussed dis-cussed and an outline of the programme pro-gramme for the convention was given by Mrs. A. N. McKay, chairman of the programme committee. |
