Show GREAT STUNTS BY HUDSON ON TRIP TO ELY, NEVADA ' - V.--:J i :,t Ir' U i'" - . vJi - II'- --, A . Mv.;r fr.l Lon CTaflln of Salt Lake In his Hudson Super-Six speedster, near Lucin. Tie pictures show the conditions of the roads over which Mr. Clal'Iin and his party traveled. A trip that further proves the endurance en-durance of a Hudson Super-Six, according accord-ing to Frank Botterill of the Tom Bot-terill Bot-terill Automobile company, distributors for the Hudson, was that made recently by Lon Claflin, the local motorcycle dealer, from Salt Lake to Ely, Nev. Mr. Claflin covered a total distance of 702 miles and came back with the statement that not- once while on the trip was the engine of the Hudson touched, even for an inspection. Mr. Claflin made the trip to Ely in fourteen four-teen and a half hours, which is regarded regard-ed as an excellent running record for a stock car. "My Hudson stood the trip without the slightest trouble," Mr. Claflin Baid yesterday when asked about his trip. "My running time from Salt Lake to Ely, a one-way distance of 351 miles, was fourteen and a half hours. I kept a record of my mileage during my trip to Ely and found that I used twenty-seven twenty-seven gallons of gasoline, or an average aver-age of thirteen miles to a gallon. "But what conclusively proves to me the endurance of a Hudson is the way it mastered the roads from Lucin to Rosebud ranch, a distance of about twelve miles. We encountered a cloudburst cloud-burst at Lucin and from that point on we had to travel through water in some places going over the running boards. "The Hudson never faltered, with the exception of one place where the water was over the wheels. Here we got temporarily stalled in the slimy mud, but with the aid of a few planks, the car pulled out of the hole with its own power. "Boing 6omewhat anxious to cut down my time on the return trip. I decided de-cided to speed up a little. Accordingly, at Snowville I decided to time myselt from there into Salt Lake and round that I covered the distance of 12 ruides in three hours and fifty minutes. min-utes. This, to my notion, is a remarkable record, when you stop to consider the slow driving that is necessary while passing through the small towns. There the speed limit is about fifteen miles an hour and these temporary stops naturally nat-urally cut down the time. "Never before during my career as a motorcycle rider and1 automobile owner own-er have I ever encountered the roads between Salt Lake and Ely in such a condition as at present. The water from the hills surrounding the road between Lucin and Rosebud ranch all runs down into tho road, making this thoroughfare a small river. ' ' I only used one quart of oil during the entire trip and not once did I have anj' tire trouble. This proves to me that the Hudson is an economical car in every sense of the word and that it is destined to have a more brilliant record rec-ord for performance than it holds at present. ' ' Mr. Claflin also stated that his car was in perfect running order when the party arrived in Salt Lake, and that it was ready to make the trip all over again with no adjustments whatever. |
