Show SUGAR INDUSTRY IS TMHCOITl President's Proclamation Intended In-tended to Stabilize Prices in Nation. ; WASHINGTON, Sept. lo. By a presidential proclamation today the en-tiro en-tiro sugar industry in the United States was placed under the food administration, administra-tion, to bo conducted under a license system which will control manufacture, distribution ami importation. Stabilization of prices is the chief aim of the food administration in putting put-ting tho-industry under liccuse. It also hopes to control distribution ami thus prevent hoarding. Sugar syrups and molases will come under the same control as raw aud refined re-fined sugars. In the opinion of local sugar representatives repre-sentatives the placing of the sugar industry in-dustry under the food administration is no more than the carrying out of the programme voluntarily agreed to by neet and cane sugar manufacturers at a conference with government representatives represen-tatives a few weeks ago. It is understood under-stood that all factories, brokers and wholesalers must take out licenses before be-fore they may operate, and all will be, under strict government supervision. |
