Show GREAT RECLAMATION PROJECT IS MED Moab Paper Contains Account Ac-count of Big Enterprise in Grand County. During the week an item of considerable I interest in Salt Lake real estate circles appeared in the Moab Independent, in which is reported the completion of the first plans of the largest reclamation project in southern Utah. Salt Lake capital is prominently interested in the promotion of this big reservoir project at valley City. Grand county, through the Bruneau-Hill Investment company, which recently put the enterprise into operation. When requested for an interview relative rela-tive to t lie progress on the Valley City project, A. J. Bruneau, vice president o; the Bruneau-Hill Investment company, referred to the following article appearing appear-ing in a- current issue of the Grand County Independent: The first stage of the work of the Valley City reclamation project wa.s completed last Thursday when the last load of dirt was placed on the dam, which 'Will furnish the necessary neces-sary water for the construction of the big embankment which will compose com-pose tlie main dam of the big irrigation irriga-tion system. This dam will impound ; the .freshet waters of the Book cliffs, to be later used in the reclamation of the vast area of desert land already al-ready acquired by the members of the company. An important directors' meeting was held last Sunday at Valley City. The Salt Lake interests wft-e represented by A. J. Bruneau and E. H. Hill. As soon as the reservoir is filled by the fall rains, work will be initiated initi-ated on the main dam, which will be situated just east of the house. The company plans to rush this work to an early completion in order that water will be made available for irrigation purposes next spring. "In the meantime mean-time it is planned to break up approximately approx-imately 200 acres of land this fall, upon which the waters from the reservoir res-ervoir already completed will be used. The fencing of the reservoir site will be completed within the next two months, and it is contemplated beginning the construction of suitable quarters for the large lorce of men which will be on the company's pay roll as soon as arrangements can be made. It is reported that very valuable concessions have been acquired by the company from the government which gives them an indisputable right of way both for the reservoir site and 1 irrigation ditches. Soil analyses have been made that show the soil well suited for almost any crops adapted to that elevation. Tests will shortly be begun which will tend to show Just what the duty of water win be on the land situated under the ditches to he constructed bv the company When completed, this will be one of the largest reclamation projects carried car-ried out in southeastern Utah, and it will have the effect of adding a stimulus stimu-lus to the farming industry in this desert country when it is once demonstrated dem-onstrated that the freshet waters can be successfully controlled and diverted di-verted ontoland when most needed |
