Show UTAH BETTER ROADS mssm grows Organization Is Securing Early Results in Its Effective Ef-fective Activities. IMPROVING HIGHWAYS Is Working in Harmonious Co-operation With State Road Commission. "For au organization just getting on its feet, I believe the Utah Better Boads associ'tion is accomplishing wonders, both in the matter of securing members aud bringing about the results for which ' the association was formed.1' This "is 5 the manner in which Herbert S, Auer- bach expressed himself yesterday when' asked for information about the new good roads organization whichwas recently re-cently launched at the state-wide convention. con-vention. Mr. Auorbach is a member of the " executive committee and is the vice president, of the Arrowhead Trail division. di-vision. He is very enthusiastic over the prospects, and believes the association associa-tion has hit alone the right lines to secure se-cure results. Although the Better Roads association is not yet two months old, i ' it has a membership close to the 200 mark, and each mail brings new members mem-bers into the fold. The wide-awake citizens of the entire state are flocking to its support, and the surprising fea-lure fea-lure of this is that country members outnumber the city members by far in the membership as represented at present. pres-ent. j-" Is Getting Results. Sfc Mr. Auerbach said yesterday: Wo are more than pleased with our rapidly increasing membership roll, and I want to emphasize that we are already getting results in m. out road work. The association adopted a plan of working hand In hand with the state highway commission com-mission and the county commissioners, commission-ers, and we find them very ready to co-operate with us. As a result there! have been a number of improvements im-provements made on our state highly high-ly ways as suggested by us, and a great many more are promised. Take the Arrowhead trail, for instance: in-stance: There is a movement which started through our organization, organi-zation, three weeks ago which will result in a big improvement on the worst spot in this route between Salt Lake and Los Angeles. It is not in tho state of Utah, however, where this particular work is needed, need-ed, but we were fortunate in getting get-ting in touch with the proper authorities au-thorities in another state to have this work done. Will Limit Efforts. Mr. Auerhaeh declares the associa- tion will, for the present, have to limit its efforts to calling the attention of the much needed improvements to tho proper officials. When the membership member-ship and finances warrant the association associa-tion in branching out into broader fields,- the association will begin signposting sign-posting tho roads, publishing maps and logs of them, and will operate a general -- bureau of information for its members. mem-bers. "We find our work somewhat hampered," ham-pered," continued Mr. Auerbach, "by tho influx of outside organization's coming into the stato and soliciting funds to promote this or that scheme. Our association investigates all of these 'schemes,' and will give its moral . and financial support to any and all "- that are worthy. Look After Highways. "The Better Roads association has made provisions in its constitution and by-laws to look after the needs of each and every highway entering the state of Utah. This work will be dono by Utah citizens acting only for the interests in-terests of tho state, and we believe we are bettor able to know what we need nnd our wants than some outsider. The Utah Better Roads association suggests that all -icrsons soliciting funds for this or that highway be referred to the officers of-ficers of tho Ctnh Better Roads asso- ciation for investigation." Mr. Auerbach niado it plain that the Utah Better Roads association does not propose to use its efforts against any one transcontinental highway to the advantage of another, nor will it permit per-mit any organization to come into Utah and try to force tourists to take anj k;- one route over another in the interest of any section of the country, lie declares de-clares that Utah desires to 'pav fair with all sections and to allow tourists to go their own way as thev may see fit.
