Meredith Mere-dith by Judge M. Jj.- Ritchlo yesterday. Meredith pleaded guilty to a charge of embezzling ?4S0 from the Pacific Iand & Water company of this city, by which ho was employed as a bookkeoper. He was extradited from New York, whither he fled when his peculations were discovered. dis-covered. Meredith was represented by no attorney, at-torney, and whon askod if he wanted one, no replied that it would do no good, anyway. Ho explained to tho court that he had borne a spotless reputation prior to embezzling? tho monoy and that he had been driven to theft by the action of hlH wife In selling his home. H. O. Lcatherwood, district attorney, doclared that Meredith's charge against his wife was without foundation. |
