U 28 Granite High 27 In one of tho roughest games ever seen In the Granlto gymnasium, the Granlto high school basketball team wa3 defeated by the L. D. S. U. by tho cl03e score or 2S to U7. Thc game was fast and furious throughout, wlllnthe Granite team hav-iiiK hav-iiiK hard luck in many of its shots. Thc winning of this game by tho li. D. S. U. will give them a clmnce for tho title of the local division. Tho U D. S. U. has one more lcngne contoat, that with tho Grantsvllle high, school. That game will be playtfd next Friday aftcr- nooa in the Deaeret gymnasium. The last contest between the two schoola was a victory for the local team, hut only after a hard fight. There is a bare possibility possi-bility of the 'visitors winning from tho U D. S. U. Now that the Granite Ave is out of Cie running for the championship of the local division, they will start hard work in preparation for the coming pame with tho Salt LoJco high school. Should they win from the high school, the I D. S. U. will bo the undisputed champions of tho Salt Lake division. Tho gamo started after both teams had a long practice, in which the Granite boys shot baskets that ahowod much ability. Aushorman practiced shooting baskota from tho foul line and rarely missed a shot. Tho game started with the L. D. S. TJ. playing Taylor and Felt in place of Clawson and Orant, tho regular regu-lar forwards. Smith played center and Olson and Williams In tho guard positions. posi-tions. Battle Is Fierce. Tho first basket of the game was made by Dennis Au3hcrman on a free throw. After the Jump-up, Felt got tho ball and, after several passes, ho shot a pretty field basket from the side of the basket. In this half Glen Smith showed poor form In his shooting from tho foul line on free throws, getting but four baskets out of ten tries. Tho L. D. S. U. points were made by Smith (C), Olson (2), Williams Wil-liams (4) and Felt (4). For Granite, the scorers were Thorum (2), Mackay (2) and Ausherman (7). An extra point was awarded to tho Granites bythe officials. Between halves the supporters of both schools formed snake dances and paraded the floor. Tells were given for every player and for tfio L. D. S. band, which rendered several selections during the gamo. Harry Halton led the cheering. At tho start of tho second half, tho L. D. S. U. players made Beveral spectacular spec-tacular baskets. Grant replaced Taylor at right forward at this period. In the middle of the second half the score was tied at 22. Both teamB playod furlously.-but furlously.-but after a short period the L. D. S. U. scored a field basket. From that period to the end tho L. TJ. S. U. held tCielr lead. Tho Granlto team played a better floor game than their opponents, but In their tries for baskets thoy had much hard luck. vPlayers Are Hurt. Tlmo was taken out in tho second half, as Felt, the star forward of thc L. D. S. U.. was Injured in a mlxup. About a mlnuto before tho end of the game Mackay Mac-kay was also hurt. He finished the game. The Gro.nlte points in this half were made by George Hamilton (2). Thorum (2), Mackay (6), Ausherman (5). The L. D, S. U. points wero mado by Smith (4). Olson (2) and Felt (C). The star of the game was Felt of the L. D. S. TI. He scored ten points of which four were field baskets. He replaced re-placed Smith in Bhooting fouls and succeeded suc-ceeded in getting two baskets. Olson and Williams did great guarding, while Grant did excellent work In the second half. For the Granites, Mackay was tho best man. Ho was In every mlxup and scored four baskets. Ho tied tho scoro In the second half. Ausherman played a stellar game at guard and did good work from the foul line. His basket in the initial half was the longest shot In the game. Thorum played a good game at guard. George Hamilton also starred. Alonzo Watson of tho Weber acadomy and Vadal Peterson of thc University of Utah woro the officials and did excellent work.
