Show LITTLE INTEREST 13 EEITE0J8EIII Admiralty Willing That the Manila Bay Incident Shall Remain Buried. BERLIN. Fob. 21. Little interest is manifested here in the controversy over jtho incidont that occurred at Manila bay between Admiral Dewey and Admiral Ad-miral von Diederichs during the Spanish-American Spanish-American war except on tho part of the naval writer. Count Ernost von Roveut-low. Roveut-low. Tho German admiralty professes to bo disinterested, saying it regards the forthcoming statement of Admiral von Diederichs as strictly personal. Admiral von Diederichs, although still carried on tho list of naval officers, offi-cers, has long ago rotirod from active connection with tho navy and is now living in the country near Bndon-Badon. A statement from him on the subject sub-ject is expected to bo issuod in three or four days. Count Rcventlow today maies a personal per-sonal attack on Admiral Dewey, calling him a braggart and a teller of half truths and saying he is far from generally gen-erally esteemed in his own country. Tho announcement on Thursday that it was understood Admiral Dewey would shortly make an explanation, was basod on an error in tho official report of tho imperial parliament. This was corrected today when the name of Admiral von Diederichs was substituted substi-tuted for that of Admiral Dowoy. |
