Basactt of this city has resorted to the somewhat, crude but effectual ef-fectual bandago method of ridding the trees of coddling moth. Tho application of sunnyaack bandages i5 a purely me-chanlcal me-chanlcal method applied In conjunction with spraying, for the latter is essential to the destruction of tho insects which reach tho blossoms, according to the local horticulturist. A strip of gunnysack four inches In width 13 plocod about the trunk of the tree with a fold on the lower odge, the fold bolng turned In toward tho tree trunk. In seeking a cozy spot In which to deposit its eggs the uioth creeps into tho fold of. the gunnysack. Every ten days tho bandage Is removed and burned, together with thousands of moth eggs. The method, which at first would seem doubtful of results, was first tried by George Cllnger. an orchardist of Provo bench, and has been adopted with great success by Mr. Bassett and other horticulturists horti-culturists In tho state. |
