Show Kids' Basketball League To Include 8 Teams What was announced last week to be a kids' basketball league with six teams from Roosevelt, has turned' out to be an 8-team affair. Had the Kiwanis Club and the Ute Tribe who are jointly sponsoring the project felt the program would have " handled more teams, ten could have been entered. When the opening call for potential po-tential team members was made last Friday night, 105 youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 were at thei elementary1 gym to greet Elmer (BumpS) Eldredge, director of youth basketball in Roosevelt, and the Kiwanis boys and girls committee. It was first decided to try to enter ten teams in the Basin Kids' league, which will include' in-clude' at least three teams from the Ute recreation department, one from Altamont and two front Vernal. Ver-nal. But more serious consideration considera-tion of the project, resulted in organizing teams with approximately approxi-mately 15 players per unit. Sponsors for the eight teams have been secured and league play will probably begin sometime some-time next week. All games will be played at the Ute Recreation hall in Randlett. The Tribe will schedule and direct the game's. Next week names of sponsors and team personnel will, be printed, unless a delay is found necessary for another week. In addition to the 8 to 13 year-old year-old program, Mr. Eldredge will hold his weekly clinic on 'Tuesdays 'Tues-days from 5 to 6 p.m. for the little fellows, age' 5 to 8. Within a relative short time at least eighty kids will be playing their games in uniforms purchased by sponsors. Players have been measured, and the order will be Sent away in the next few days for suits. |
