Show Leader Reports GroivtSi Of Scouting In Basin Report Is Timed As Kickoff For Scout Week By Rulon D. Skinner Parents and citizens' of Duchesne County should take pride in the increasing percentage of boys that are' becoming active in the Cub Scout,, Boy Scout and Explorer programs of the Boy Scouts of America, states Rulon Dean Skinner, Skin-ner, field Scout executive. As of Januarv 1, 1956, 26 of the boys in Duchesne' County 8, 9 and 10 years of age were registered reg-istered Cub Scouts. Over 90 of boys 11, 12 and 13 years' old are Boy Scouts, and 69 of the' boys 14, 15 and 16 are Explorers. This compares to the national average of 40 Cub Scouts, 40 Boy Scouts, and 15 Explorers. Duchesne County's 520 Scouts and 227 leaders join this coming week with the 4,100,000 Scouts and leaders' in the entire United States of America in celebrating Scouting's 46th anniversary. Here' in Duchesne County as across the nation, special events and the wearing of the Scout uniform uni-form will fill the week of Feb. 6 to 12. ' Under the direction of Loren Alexander, Camping and Activities chairman, several' events are planned plan-ned for the Roosevelt District. Thursday, Feb. 9, there will be an Explorer Valentine dance at Ioka. Wednesday, Feb. 15, the Boy Scouts will conduct the 1956 Circus. Cir-cus. Sunday, Feb. 12, Roosevelt District Dis-trict will hold what is "anticipated to be the largest District Court of Honor on record. It will begin at 3 p.m. Duchesne District chairman, El-vin El-vin Barker, reports that district will kickoff the Boy Scout week celebration with a Court of Honor at Tabiona on Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. The Duchesne District Scout-Explorer Circus will be held Monday; Feb. 20 in Duchesne. They also will conduct Scout Sunday programs in the' LDS wards on Feb. 5, Moon Lake Ready In Moon Lake District, Jesse Palm, Camping and Activities chairman, reports a District Scout-Family Scout-Family night is being slated for Monday,' Feb. 6. This Scout-Family night will include a circus, banquet ban-quet and Court of Honor. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Altamont Alta-mont School. Many of the packs, troops and posts of Duchesne County will be planning special' unit activities during the Feb. 6 to 12 Boy Scout Week. Included among these' will be good turns to the sponsoring institution, parents' nights, and overnight camping trips. District Scout leaders' responsible respon-sible for the' administration of the program of Scouting are as follows: fol-lows: In Roosevelt District James E, Bacon is District chairman, with Ray Brown and Leo Haueter as vice-chairmen. Floyd' Labrum is organization and extension chairman chair-man and Joseph E. Olpin is finance fi-nance chairman. Other Roosevelt District Scout-ers Scout-ers include George Hacking, Dis-trica Dis-trica commissioner; Loren Alexander, Alex-ander, ' camping and activities chairman;, Spencer Squire, leader-Ship leader-Ship training chairman; Roe McDonald, Mc-Donald, health and safety chairman; chair-man; and Sharon Cummings, advancement ad-vancement chairman. Members of the Roosevelt District Dis-trict organization and extension committee besides Mr. Labrum, are Zane Asay, Mat Foley, Clark Abegglen and Sam Hemmingway, DarrelL Atkinson, Merlin Killpack, DeVon Andrus, Ben Gomm and Frank Adams are members of Sharon Cummings' advancement committee. Registered neighborhood commissioners com-missioners include: Orman Sullivan, Sulli-van, John Chasel, Norman Long, Gerald Mitchell and Bill Nelson. Duchesne District Elvin Barker is Duchesne District Dis-trict chairman and Bill Peatross is 'District commissioner. Earl Jordan Jor-dan is organization and extension chairman; Elwood Carter, leadership leader-ship training chairman; and W. C. Foy, finance chairman. Cliff Mick-elson Mick-elson is district advancement chairman, and' health and safety chairman is Dr. John Smith. Donald Moore is assistant District Dis-trict commissioner in charge of Boy Scout Roundtables and Keith Farnsworth is a neighborhood commissioner. com-missioner. Heads Moon Lake Glen Mohlman heads the Moon Lake District Scouting. Grant Peel is District commissioner; Wm. R, Evans, vice-chairman and Cloyd Powell, chairman of organization and extension. Moon Lake District camping and activities chairman is Jesse Palm, while Dale Cummings is advancement ad-vancement chairman. James Powell Pow-ell is finance chairman and Ben C. Gomm, leadership training chairman. Gene Soderquist is a member of the Moon Lake advancement committee while Cle'nty Ames is a neighborhood commissioner. |
