This is our annual an-nual Rural Education Conference. Over 300 people participated in last year's conference and many fine things for the Duchesne County Coun-ty schools' were accomplished there in defining the purposes and objectives of our school. This year it is planned that the conference will deal with six important im-portant problems that confront us at this time. These are: 1 What should our schools' accomplish? ac-complish? How can we best serve the needs of our gifted' children? chil-dren? 2 How. can we organize our schools more efficiently and economically? Is the present way of electing one school board member from a precinct pre-cinct each year the best way? Is there further consolidation consolida-tion than is feasible for more efficient and economical, operation op-eration of the schools? Should the kindergarten be continued as a part of our school organization? Can busses be routed for more efficient operation? 3 what are our school building build-ing needs? What shall we do about those school buildings that were not included in-cluded in the State's Emer-(Continued Emer-(Continued on Classified Page) KNOW YOUR SCHOOLS . . . How can we best plan for financing our building program? 4 How can we get enough good teachers , . .. and keep them? How can we make' our district dis-trict a more attractive place for new teachers? How can we help our good teachers to want to stay in Duchesne County? Are there ways we can organize our schools so fewer trained teachers are needed? How can we best help our teachers to continually contin-ually improve? 5 How can we finance our schools? Must the present high property tax for our schools be continued? How can we most effectively work with our state legislature legis-lature for better ways of financing fi-nancing schools? Should we work for federal aid to education? edu-cation? Are there economies that can be' and should be effected in our present operations? oper-ations? 6 How can we maintain a continuing con-tinuing public interest in education? ed-ucation? How can conferences conferen-ces like' this be used more effectively? Can the local and state newspapers help us even more than presently with this problem? How can and does the P-TA help to solve educational problems and maintain public interest in education? How can civic clubs most effectively work for better schools? Each of these problems carry important issues that are facing our local school board now. Answers An-swers to these questions must be found. They can be found if we attack them together. Plan now to be an active' participant par-ticipant in this year's conference Thursday evening and all day Friday, Fri-day, March 22 and 23. |
