Shoe Fair Has SpringShoes Mobility of merchandise and buying power are the two advantages a chain store has over independent retail businesses Bob Push, the manager of the 5-Points 5-Points Shoe Fair store claims. With over 100 stores coast to coast and eight stores in Utah, the Shoe Fair corporation can purchase large quantities of merchandise mer-chandise from a manufacture at good prices. The company can carry name brand merchandise along with their own brand products. Prices are reasonable because of the volume buying. Shoe Fair brand products pro-ducts are of high quality. The shoes are manufactured manufac-tured by a well-known company. . KNOWING how to stock a shoe store is an important impor-tant aspect of the business. Mr. Push says the buying patterns of customers have been studied over the years. "A man will usually buy a pair of shoes every year and half. Women buy an average of five pairs a year. Naturally, our store stocks a good selection of women's shoes along with a large children's and infant's department and a men's section." The ability to change merchandise ties in with the customer preference phase of the business. "If a particular style isn't selling in our store, we can send it somewhere else where the style is better received. We can replace this item with styles that are popular in our buying area," Mr. Push says. THE QUALITY of a shoe depends mostly on the materials used and the workmanship. The shoe style is important when quality is considered. A man's shoe is usually enclosed. More material is used in the construction. The shoe is durable. Women's shoes often have open sections. They are more flimsy because be-cause not as much material is used in their construction. construc-tion. The Shoe Fair store is inbetween a self-service concept and a full-service store. Merchandise is all displayed on the floor. The shelves are easily arranged by style and size. A customer can browse through the store and select the shoe to buy or the customer can ask for assistance from the sales staff. TRAINING IN fitting and stocking is required of all employees. Bob Push has managed the Bountiful store for the past six months. He started with the company as a part-time employee in the Logan store. Later he became the manager of the Logan Shoe Fair. MR. PUSH likes the Bountiful location. "I'm looking look-ing forward to a good spring selling season," he says. |
