Show West By ALICE MITCHELL This is the time of the year when celebrations are held in honor of the founding of the LDS Relief Society. It was established so that the women could help the needy when they were in Nauvoo and during the years to follow. The Society is the oldest women's organization which has continued con-tinued successful since its beginning. be-ginning. In the early days in Utah the organization assisted in the building of the Utah Territory, Ter-ritory, the LDS area in the west and finally in the new state of Utah in 1896. The Relief Society stored wheat for times of trouble and were asked to donate it during World War I. The Relief Society Socie-ty members have been taught to can fruits and vegetables, dry fruits, etc., for times of trouble. The members have always al-ways been taught to be frugal and to save for times of emergency. Their Relief Society lessons today approximate classes taught in universities and college. col-lege. The Relief Society has always al-ways furnished care of the younger children which the members have brought with them. At first, there was merely mere-ly a babysitter offered. In later years there have been instructive instruc-tive classes for the children each week. Happy birthday to Relief Society. On Tuesday, March 22, a Relief Society birthday party was held in the 1st Ward. It was held in the evening at 7 p.m. with a dinner and program. Roy Nicholson has been on crutches. We hope that he will soon be much better. On March 24 there will be an outstanding guest pianist who will play at the Valley Music Hall. His name is Wladimir Kochanski. Robbie Dautel was feted on his 12th birthday. Jim and Sherrie Bangerter had fun on a holiday to Phoenix with children left at home. The only trouble was that it rained all of the time they were away. Mary Watts had been staying at her son Everett's home in Kaysville during the past week. She developed problems in her knees and found it impossible to go to California. The Bob Wrights were happy hap-py to have visitors last weekend. The Craig Siddoways are out in public again after some hospital and illnesses. Kris had been hospitalized longer when her baby Andrew James was born. He had trouble with Jaundice. To make matters worse son Nicholas was hospitalized hos-pitalized for a hernia. Stephie is also recovering from her illness. ill-ness. Harriet Stephens had a steady crowd at the open house held for her by her sisters sis-ters at her home last Saturday, prior to leaving on a mission. Sherrie Johnson continues with her successful writing of stories for the Friend and Ensign. En-sign. This month there was part of a three-part story in the Friend. Myrtle Higgs has been enjoying en-joying attending plays and symphonies with her daughter Janet Thompson. What she really wants to do is get out in her garden. Mamie Holbrook was happy to have her two daughters visit with her. Sisters Celia Jensen, Julina Christensen, LaRue P. Hugoe and Edith Tripp enjoyed a visit and meal together in Riverton. Carolyn Whittingten was married to Rian Schroeder last week at her home. The wedding wed-ding ceremony was performed by his bishop. Virginia Hugoe is practicing her skating. There will be an ice show in May in which she will participate. Sue Cleverely's father. Rich Bingham of TV news, was hospitalized hos-pitalized after an heart attack. On March 9 the 2nd Ward Relief Society women enjoyed their birthday party according to LaRue P. Hugoe, president. There were 75 women present. Belle Ranck was in charge of the program, which honored past presidents Columbia Argyle, Retta Clark. Carolyn Alder, Betty Jean Salmon, Jer-rie Jer-rie Southwick, LaRue P. Hugoe, Peggy Tullis, Elva Jeppson. Idell Samuelson was honored even though she is in the mission field. Wanda Telford Tel-ford and Marj Coston were honored although they have passed on. Lydia Bangerter enjoyed her birthday. She was feted by members of the family. The Paul Buys traveled to Logan to see the naming of their grandson, Jonathan Bryce Buys. He is the son of their son David. The Brendt Child family is enjoying their let letters from their daughter Betty and two girls. They are growing to love the people in the Azores. The family is looking forward to a trip to Europe and Sweden for genealogy. Former Bonnie Child and husband Scott Justensen are moving back to West Bountiful. Boun-tiful. Scott and Lynell Thompson are glad to announce the birth of a baby girl. LeRoy Broderick is a new cubmaster. Roland and Yvonne Fennell and daughter Collette are visiting visit-ing in California. Son Bobbie is staying at the Bob Dilks and with Mrs: Ivy Fennell. Ivy is really excited that this year is her 80th birthday. Herchildren want a special celebration. She is leaving for England in April. Jimmy Davis of the Woodhaven Trailer Court, is still having a lot of fun as he bowls with a bowling league. Helen was installed in the Bowler's Hall of Fame recently. re-cently. Former West Bountifulites Lori Bradshaw and family visited vi-sited with her sister Pamela Hodgson and family. They reside re-side in Salt Lake but are planning plan-ning to build a new home in Farmington. Frank Hatch was down with trouble with his knees. May and Bob Telford were in West Bountiful from Arizona Arizo-na recently. They'll be moving up for the summer months. David Pfeiffer has returned from his mission. He spoke in Sacrament meeting on Sunday. Sunday was a great day in the 1st Ward for those who are in wheelchairs or with other handicaps. Two stalls marked for the handicapped have been painted. Hopefully, the other people will not use these spaces. It is quite difficult diffi-cult to have to push a wheelchair wheel-chair down to the end of the parking lot and back. Thanks to the people who were influential in-fluential in adding this accommodation. accom-modation. May Venter has spent much of her time helping at the home of her son and wife. Eileen is recuperating from surgery, but it is a slow process. Keith and Eileen Salmon are still remembering their recent trip to the Hawaiian Islands. The parents and daughters of the West Bountiful School had a special program at the school recently. They loved the clown and especially being with parents.
