Show Judge Gives Gag Order FARMINGTON - There'll be no discussion of the Scott G. Worthen case -- except testimony tes-timony offered within the courtroom -- when trial begins April 14 or 15. SECOND District Court Judge Douglas L. Cornaby has issued a "gag order" to all attorneys and others involved in the case which forbids "any extra-judicial statements of any kind" from being discussed discus-sed before a verdict is returned. re-turned. Worthen is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 3-year-old stepdaughter, step-daughter, Heidi Jo Pavich, of Syracuse. He was convicted of a similar charge last January 2 1 , but a new trial was ordered. THIS HAS led Chief Deputy County Attorney Steven Van-derlinden Van-derlinden to announce he will ask the Utah Supreme Court to overturn Judge Cornaby's decision de-cision to grant a new trial and to postpone any new trial until a Supreme Court ruling is handed down. That gag order issued last week by Judge Cornaby also places the news media on notice that they shall not only refrain from discussing the case with attorneys or anyone involved with the trial but shall also refrain from publishing material not introduced in the court proceedings.
