Show THE WEED NUISANCE. It is astonishing to sec the growth the weeds have made in the last two or three weeks. In whatever direction direc-tion we go we find them overrunning the land and we see few attempt to abate the nuisance. They seem to be worse between Delta and H tackle? where farm after farm Is completely occupied by tbem. Tumble weed are so thick on many farms on the north iiiid south tract that farmers are cut-Ling cut-Ling their grain with a mower and will make no attempt to thresh out the gialn. They are simply feeding it out. Hundred of acre of grain have been ruined by this pent. The canals of the Decent, the Mellvllle and Delta Companies are lined with these weed and itule they are cut down very soon they will go to seed and be scattered scat-tered over every farm along these canal. Clark street 1 lined with them from In front of the office of the town board and headquarter of the Clark street boosters, in front of the ward ball, on every vacant lot and along every en rial. The county commissioners passed an ordinance to have tbem removed re-moved by August ", but no dlscern-able dlscern-able effort ha yet been mad to carry out the ordinance, la everybody going go-ing to simply lay down and let tbe country be overwhelmed with weed? A subscriber brought to tbe office a sample of Russian thistle be had pulled from a bunch on Clark street. We read blm Attorney Hollenbeck's article published elsewhere. "If tbe RuHsian thistle is a blessing In dis-gule dis-gule It Is so thoroughly disguised that I can see no blessing In It," said he. "It ba driven a good many farmers out of Oklahoma and will do the same here If no effort Is made to suppress It It may do no harm on the mountain and in desert place but tbla Is a settled community and it will ruin gardens and farm if It is not exterminated." Probably the only hope for the .ermer Is to put aa much of hi land in fall grain as be can. By doing this the grain can be harvested before the weed get a start, but there will be little hope of getting much pring grain next year unless Immediate tep are taken to destroy the weed along the canal before they go to eed. |
