Show T-Birds sweep series with Utah Cleo Petty and his crew had to come from behind to capture the win, Utah moved out to a 2-0 lead but a two-run homer by Tony Pappas in the third gave the T-Birds a 4-2 lead. In the top of the fifth the Utes came back to tie the score but in the bottom of the frame SUSC exploded for five runs to ice the victory. In the frame two walks and an error loaded the bases and the first of five runs was walked in. Warren Hatch picked up a pair of RBI's with an infield single. A fourth run scored on a single by Bob Piatt and the fifth run came across on an infield out by Jim Nelson. Statically it was a real feather in SUSC's cap. It was the first time in 14 years that the T-Birds have sweep a two-game series against Utah. It is the first victory over the Utes since 1975 and broke an eight game losing streak to the upstate rivals. A sweep of a two-game series over the University of Utah Tuesday afternoon sets the stage for Southern Utah T-Birds as they face Mesa Friday and Saturday in a crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series. the T-Birds, behind the five hit pitching of Garn Jorgensen and a grand slam homerun by Danny Nuttall, blasted the visting Uthes 10-3 in the opener and came back to post a 9-4 victory in the night cap. Jorgensen posted his fourth victory of the season against no losses in the opening game. Scott Brown came on in the fifth in relief to hold the victory. Rex Shipp went the distance in the second game to up his record to three wins and two losses. He scattered seven hits in the contest.
