Show In Our opinion - Dedication reminds us of our heritage Friday will be a special day in Cedar City and particularly at Southern Utah State College. It is a day when the general public will be given an opportunity to visit the campus and view the campus from the iaside out, rather than from the outside in, as we so often do. It is a day that residents should avail themselves of visiting the campus and witnessing the growth that has taken place in the development of facilities to provide for academic excellence -the goal of any institution of higher learning. Starting off the day's activities will be a ground breaking ceremony for a new Business Building, to be constructed on the campus. From 2 to 5 p.m. newly ren-novated ren-novated or newly constructed buildings on the campus will be open for inspection with representatives of the various departments on hand to discuss the facilities and academic programs. Buildings to be visited include the Old Administration Building and Old Main Building-two buildings that have been com pletely rennovated, but a part of the original campus. Open House activities will also be held at newly constructed facilities including the New Administration Ad-ministration Building, the Industrial In-dustrial Education Building and the Life Science Laboratory. Following the open house a dedication ceremony for each of the above mentioned buildings will be held at the SUSC auditorium with Elder N. Eldon Tanner, First Presidency of the Church of Latter-day Saints, to offer the dedicatory prayer. The concluding activity of the day will be an appreciation banquet for President Royden C. Braithwaite who will retire this year. He has served first as Director, then as President of the institution since February 1955. SUSC - which in its beginning was known as Branch Normal School -- is a part of the heritage of southern Utah. The efforts to provide for educational opportunities op-portunities by unselfish residents of this area can and should provide the inspiration for each of us to become involved and a part of the heritage that it provides. |
