Show Nation will miss Granger It is fitting that we take this time, this week, to acknowledge the passing of Walter K. Granger, one of this areas great statesmen. From a political standpoint Mr. Granger represented Utah's First Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives for six consecutive con-secutive terms. He served as mayor of Cedar City for three terms and was a State Representative to the Utah Legislature for three terms serving ser-ving as Speaker of the House. While in the U.S. Congress he served on the powerful Ways and election to the U.S. Congress he served on the Utah Civil Service Commission. Through those many years of service Mr. Granger was able to establish a rapport with his constituents con-stituents that made it possible for him to communicate with the Congress the feeling and concerns of Utahns. His entire life was one of service. He was a Bishop in the LDS Church, he served with the Marines during World War I and spent 18 months overseas. His political career was simply an extension of that service to his fellow countrymen. Southern Utah State College saw fit to award an honorary doctorate to Mr. Granger in 1976 in recognition of his service. At this time we express our bereavement to his lovely wife, Hazel, and express our deep feeling of loss. Walter K. Granger was a man who was not afraid to make decisions. Many people have sought his counsel. Cedar City--the nation will miss Walter K. Granger. |
