Show Economic growth on upgrade The level of economic and business activities in the southwestern five counties of Utah at the beginning of 1978 was "relatively higher than a year ago," according to a Job Service bulletin. In Iron County, total employment during January, 1978 was more than four percent greater than the total in January, 1977. However, the new jobs were not spawned by the nonagricultural sectors, the newsletter from the Utah Department of Employment Security stated, as there were 14 less nonfarm jobs in January this year. The Job Service bulletin said the number of people unemployed was up slightly from a year ago, but a slight decline in the unemployment rate, from 4.9 percent in 1977 to 4.8 percent this January, was experienced "because the growth of the labor force." Building construction activity was up 14 percent, the state agency said. |
