Show Piautes search for new site Plans are being considered to locate nine more homes of the local Paiute Housing Authority in subdivisions of the Enoch-Midvalley area. McKay Pikyavit, Executive Director of the Utah Paiute Tribal Corporation Housing Authority, confirmed to the Record this week the housing authority for the local Indians have been searching for a new location for nine additional homes. Among the areas looked at are the Enoch bench subdivisions as well as subdivisions just west of the Miner-svilJe Miner-svilJe Highway. No land has been purchased, however, Pikyavit said, although negotiations are underway "with a final decision expected in two-three months." A major landowner in the Enoch bench area confirms that no land has been purchased by any agency of the federal or state government with the intent for Indian Housing. He stated he has never been approached by any Indian representative nor has any earnest money been placed on one of the nine lots in question. He said nothing at this point is "authenticated" concerning the deal "except that I will continue to market my lots to anyone who wants to buy one." Enoch Town officials indicated a meeting was held last week with state representatives of the Department of Housing and Urban Development as they outlined options cocerning the nine homes. Pikyavit indicated the search for additional home sites was prompted by the refusal of additional housing in the present Indian Village by the Planning Commission due to the subsidence occurring in the northeast section of town. |
