Show Fishing Season Opening Eyed by Anglers Upwards of 150,000 anglers will trek to streams, lakes and reservoirs res-ervoirs for the May 28 opening of the Utah fishing season. Since this is the earlinst general gen-eral angling season opening in many years the Department of Fish and Game today reminded anglers to expect different conditions condi-tions than usually prevail. The department noted that high, roily water could be expected ex-pected in most streams. The late cool spring weather may make roads and camping conditions at higher elevations less favorable than has been the rule when the season opened nearer mid-June. mid-June. Commission action set the ear-lier-than-usual opening date to give anglers the full advantage of the three-day Memorial holi-day holi-day week end. It was felt that any adverse conditions would be more than offset by the earlier opportunity to go afield over the long week end period. It was also realized that the department's program of planting plant-ing hatchery-raised legals would not be as far advanced at this early date. The hatchery trucks are now beginning to move these fish to accessible lakes and reservoirs. res-ervoirs. It is expected that nearly near-ly all these still waters will receive re-ceive an average plant of catch-ables catch-ables gefore the opening date. Many streams will not be planted until the high water period per-iod is past. Records show a Jarge portion o the legals stocked before, be-fore, or during, the !ote May and early June run-off on most streams are lost to the fisherman's fisher-man's creel. All streams will receive a normal nor-mal or greater planting of hatchery hatch-ery legals as conditions permit through the season. The total hatchery program is being geared gear-ed to put more catchable-sized trout into all waters throughout the angling season. It is known that the returns from these fish are greatest when stocked during or immediately prior to the opening open-ing of the season. The department advised that anglers know their regulations before going afield. New rules this year show changes in both adult and juvenile limits, more liberal baits, and other regulations.
