Show Cedar High School Baseball Nine Drops Semi-final Region Game, 12-9 The Cedar City High School Redmen put up a gallant fight but finally went down to defeat in the semi-final Region six baseball base-ball game against Delta High School here Moi.day afternoon. Coach Ray Englestead's diamond dia-mond men, the majority of whom will return for another two years of playing for the Redman, mado a gallant stao at the semi-final game, but could not beat the hard-hitting Delta Rabbits. Three pitchers took turns at mound chores for the Redmen, but none could stop the Rabbits. Michael Frame was on the mound first relieved by Bevan Corry in the fourth. Corry was relieved by Jon Isom later and he finally relinquished relin-quished to Frame again in the final inning of play. Delta took an early lead, capitalizing cap-italizing on several errors in the first two Innings to take a 5 to 0 lead. In the bottom of the third the Redmen came back pushing across two runs for a 5 to 2 ball game. Coach Englestead's boys fired up in the fourth Inning and pushed push-ed across seven runs and took a 9 to 5 lead. Kenneth Jones, first man up for the Redmen in the fourth, walked and Isom laid down a beautiful bunt to advance ad-vance Jones and he was safe on the play at first. That opened up the Inning and two errors bv the Delta third baseman allowed the runs to score and left two more men on bases. Corry belted out a home run at that point to sweep three more runs across home plate. They continued their drive with, four more runs before the Rabbits could letire the side. However, in the fifth and sixth innings Delta continued to push across runs and they moved into a 12 to 9 advantage. Holding Delta Del-ta in the top of the seventh and final inning, the Redmen loaded1 the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to collect the necessary hits to score the runs. The game ended with the bases loaded. Delta will meet Hurricane this week end for the Region Six championship and the right to enter the state finals. Hurricane beat out Dixie in the other semi-final game this week. |
