Show HEYWOOD WINS THREE Cedar City Redmen Post High Score In Region Six Competition at Delta Fleet footed Redmen from Cedar High School walked off with team honors in the Region Six Track and Field meet held at Delta Friday and qualified nine men for participation in the State meet to be held at the University Univer-sity cf Utah, Saturday, May 14. Leading the point parade which netted a total of 86 for the Redmen was Richard Hey-wood, Hey-wood, who won three events and participated in the winning 880 yard relay. Heywood took first place in both sprint events, the 100 and 220 yard dashes and also garnered first in the broad jump. Other firsts for the Cedar City crew included the 410 with Herb Corry setting the pace with a time of 52.8 and the 880 yard run with Kenneth Terklns leading lead-ing the field with a time of 2:07.1 minutes. Win Two Relays Two of the three relay events went to Cedar City. The Redmen captured first in the 880 yard relay with Heywood, Ronald Stratton, Terry Bolander, and Roger Haycock each hoofing 220 yards. The Cedar City Medley team composed of A. Hunter and Eldon Webster, 220's Corry on the 440 and Perkins on the 880, captured first in that event. These eight men, listed in the two relays, with Dan Shaffer, who took third in the pole valut will make the excursion to the state meet, according to Glen Jackson, coach. Score in Events Following is the list of Red-men Red-men who placed in the various events of the Regional meet: 120 High hurdles: Gale Fife, 4th. Pole vault: Shaffer, 3rd. Mile run: David Saggers, 4th. 440: II. Corry, 1st; Dayne Gardner 4th, and Hunter, 5th. 100: Heywood, 1st; Haycock, 4th; Stratton, 5th. Javelin: Stratton, 2nd Broad jump: Helwood, 1st. 180 low hurdles: Haycock, 2nd; Webster, 5th. 880: Perkins, 1st; J. D. Corry, 4th. 220: Heywood, 1st; Stratton, 4th. Medley: Cedar, 1st. 880 relay: Cedar, 1st. Mile relay: Cedar, 4th. Only events that the Redmen did not place in were the high jump, discus, and shot put. Others Qualifying In addition to the first place winners, Heywood, Corry, and i Perkins, others qualifying for the state competition were Stratton on the javelin, Haycock in the low hurdles and Shaffer in the polevault, in addition to the two winning relay teams. Team results at the Region meet were as follows: Cedar 86. Delta 70V4. Millard 43. Kanab 39, Milford 34, Dixie 17'i, Bea-ver Bea-ver 10, Parowan 8, Hurricane , and Valley 0. Boasting one o the strongest teams ever to enter the state meet from Cedar High Coach Jackson's crew could verv well capture the state event. Strone-est Strone-est competition will probably come from BY High, Jackson indicated. |
