Show CI 0 Convention Members Resolve w Plans of Action in Labor Interest The 19th annual convention of 4he Utah -State. Industrial .Union Council (CIO), held in Cedar City last wek end, came to an end turday night after a most sue-fssful sue-fssful three-day convention dur-iz dur-iz which important action was jken In the Interest of labor. Resolutions were passed seek-Jig seek-Jig the outright repeal of two new Utah laws that were vigorously vigor-ously opposed by organized labor, the so-cll?!d right to work law, ami the child labor law which made Important changes in the employment of youths under 16 years of age in Utah. The convention delegates also went on record as favoring a change in the Utah Public Service Commission set-up asking that the members be elected rather than be appointed, as is the case at present. A resolution passed pass-ed at the final session of the convention con-vention asked that the legislature legisla-ture elect the commission members mem-bers on a staggered two-year basis. ba-sis. Another resolution urged mem bers to work for legislation that will extend the coverage of the Utah Workmen's Compensation act to Include agikultural workers. work-ers. Still another urged union delegates to it solve to become politically conscious and make every effort between now and the next election to activate the membership so legislators favorable fav-orable to labor will be elected. The delga'es also went on record as favoring a federal minimum min-imum wage of $1.25 an hour, and urging th.? Utah delegation in ' Congress to work for such legislation. C. E. Throughout the three-day convention con-vention a number of high ranking rank-ing labor leaders in the western states delivered most interesting addresses, urging united action on the part of all C I O members mem-bers in th? promotion of labor Interests. More than 150 delegates and their wives attended the annual convention and indications were that all enjoyed their stay in Cedar City. |
