Show CSU 'Dark Horse' fit Coming ICflC Track Meet Fifteen members of the College of Southern Utah track and field team left this morning for Ogden where they will participate in the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Athle-tic Conference meet. Weber Junior Jun-ior College at Ogden will host the event this year. The Ricks College Vikings of Rexburg, Idaho, are expected to successfully defend their conference confer-ence crown this year, with a considerable con-siderable amount of depth and some fine individual stars. However, every team in the conference has a few exceptionally exception-ally fine m?n and the cut into first place ranks could possibly move the Ricks crew into an "also "al-so ran" position. Although Coach Brace Osborne of C S U does not have outstanding outstand-ing depth, most of the 15 man team will be expected to garner points at the conference meet. A number of individual-' stars could pull in a lot of points for the Broncos and with the breaks they could make it tough for Ricks College. Weber College, also al-so boasting a frirly strong team this year, will be a menace to any conference aspirant. Bill Meador, sprint star for the Broncos, who has captured the 220 yard dash in a number of meets, but Is still looking forward for-ward to his first 100 yard dash victory, could very easily come up with tsvo conference titles, with the breaks this week end. Bud Nielson, hurdles man who has captured bolh low and highs in every meet this season, will be pushed but again should come through. Another first for the Broncos will probably bo Kenneth Ben-son Ben-son on the shot put. Benson was not in attendance at the meet In Ogden last week end and th's event could have spelled the difference dif-ference between a first and second sec-ond place for the Broncos. J. N. Webster's efforts in the broadjump could very well develop de-velop into a first piace which would be another feather in the Bronco's bonnet at this meet. Lacking, however, is depth. A number of men can be counted on for at least first and seconds, sec-onds, but the participants in the events are limited to one and two men necessitating at least first or second to be given consideration con-sideration as potential conference confer-ence contenders. |
