Show Uintah girl hoopsters topple Murray 56 to 50 The Uintah girl cagers were behind by 12 points with 2:41 left to play, but they rallied on clutch free throws, field goals and a pressing defense to thump the Spartans in Murray, Thursday, 56 to 50. The win improves Uintah's record to 11 wins and 6 losses, and places the Utes in third place at 3 wins and 4 losses. Cyprus is in first place, and Murray is in second place. "We kept putting pressure on Murray. We had been pressing the whole game and the Murray players got frustrated and started making mistakes. Teresa Smith, Jodene Merkley and Chris Mott put in some i clutch free throws,"; stated' Uintah coach, LoaKay Bowthrope. "The kids played a good defensive game. They played hard the whole game and that is what kept us in the game. We started hitting good from the field in the fourth quarter." The top scorer for Uintah was Kristy McNeill with 16 points on seven field goals and two free throws. Darian Abegglen fired in 11 points. Also scoring points for Uintah were: Teresa Smith, 8; Chris- Mott, 6; Jodene Merkley, 5; Cindy McBride, 4; Pennie Murray, 2 and Rhonda Rhodes, 2. Uintah flipped in 18 field goals and hit 18 out of 25 free throws. Teresa Smith was 6 for 7 from the foul line. Murray's top scorers were Bailey, 15 and Erickson, 9. Cyprus toppled the Uintah Utes in Magna, February 5 by 20 points, 68 to 48. Uintah had a 15 to 11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Cyprus nabbed the lead in the second quarter at 33 to 24. The score at the end of the third quarter was: Cyprus, 49 and Uintah, 32. Cyprus went on to win the game by the score of 68 to 48. , '.."
