Show Cockatiels can learn to talk Cockatiels are one of the most easily tamed caged birds and one of the easiest to teach to talk. They are hardy and easily kept and one of the cleanest birds available. They are friendly and loyal and have a life span from 20 to 25 years. These birds are very companionable and get along well with most any other type of bird. They often become quite attached to parakeets. Although the Cockatiel originated in Australia, they are well known in Holland. There has also been much success in breeding and raising them in England, and it was from there that they came to the U.S. The pet Cockatiel ranges in size from 11 to 14 inches. The wing span can be up to 16 inches. Their plumage is predominantly grey, with a wide band of white on the wing. Mature males display a bright yellowhead with orange patches over the ears. With apartment type housing becoming more widespread, birds have really become popular as pets. They require little room and are easily kept. They make loyal friends and love attention. |
