First North. No damage was reported. The second fire, 1:30 a.m., was at the Kevin Perkins residence, 816 W. 100 North. The Perkins family was aroused early Sunday by two students who saw the house on fire and were knocking on the door. "They helped us get the kids and things out of the house," said Kevin Perkins. The fire originated on the west side of the house in the carport and was caused by some flammable liquid, , reported firemen. An electrical cord running through a window on the west side, to a battery . recharger is suspected of igniting the liquid. ; "We had problems putting the fire 'out," said Henry Schaefermeyer, volunteer fireman. "The fire got into the isolation of the electrical heating which gave us problems. Finally we had to pour water through it." Total damage to the house was estimated at $15,000 to $20,000. Later the same Sunday, 5:45 p.m., firemen responded to a call at the Tino Scico residence at the Fairview Trailer Court. The fire was only a burned out furnace motor, and no damages were reported except to the motor. Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. firemen were called to a fire at the Mecham Apartments, 106 W. First South. The fire was caused by grease on a hot stove. The fire was contained to the stove, and there were no damages to the structure. morning putting the fire out. The flames totaled the roof. |
