Coupled with the higher costs of operating governmental services due to inflation, the governor said the state was going to be in a tight financial situation through the 80's, even though a great energy boom is expected to increase in-crease business and bring many people to the state. This same problem will affect our local government. In many businesses the costs of doing business are increasing increas-ing more rapidly than the source of incomes in-comes of these businesses. The only way to meet this situation is to charge more for services and goods or discontinue discon-tinue them. It is going to take some tough decisions in the 80's to continue in our life-style like we have become accustomed ac-customed to in the 70's. Next Monday is President's Day. It will be a holiday for some and just another work-day for others. The schools in the area will close that day as will most of the state, city and government govern-ment offices. Most retail businesses will be open as usual, so this is a good time to do some shopping as it is traditionally a time for sales to bring the shoppers to town for special bargains. The Express office will be open Monday. This week is the state wrestling tournament. tour-nament. A large segment of the local population will migrate to Salt Lake City Ci-ty to support our team. The local support sup-port has played an important factor in establishing a record of 13 state wrestling wrestl-ing championships for Uintah High School. We wish the team good luck this year and hope they can bring another state championship trophy home. |
