Show Grant aids law enforcement in Uintah County Recently, at the monthly meeting of the Law Enforcement Planning Agency Council of the Uintah Basin, approval was given to a grant that will improve law enforcement in Uintah County Mrs. Josephine Yergenson the " chairperson of the LEPA Council said the grant from the Utah Council of Criminal Justice Administration will pay part of the salary of the Uintah County Juvenile Officer. This county sheriff department officer works with the apprehension of juvenile lawbreakers, the transportation of juveniles to and from court and to and from juvenile centers on the Wasatch Front, as well as the important area of prevention through education. Because juvenile delinquency has been a growing county-wide problem in recent years, about 250 cases were handled in the county in 1979, an officer dealing solely with juvenile cases in the county has been a great value in more effective law enforcement. Uintah County Sheriff Arden Stewart states that there has been a reduction on the number of juvenile referrals this year in the county because of a full-time full-time juvenile officer in the Sheriff's Department. |
