UJ5in)flah)'s fcstf JbireoEs- The Union Cougars cut Uintah's lead, to six points, 60 to 54, with 2:26 left in the game, but the Utes' fast break express ex-press went to work and outscored the Roosevelt crew, 10 to 1, to win the game ' in Vernal, Saturday, 70 to 55. The win over the Cats gave Uintah a 2-1 hoop mark. Uintah jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but a two-pointer by Union's Tracy Neilson tied up the game at 4-4. However, Der-rin Der-rin Gardiner nabbed a rebound and fired it in the hoop and converted two free throws for an 8-4 Uintah lead. Field goals by Tracy Dye and Tracy Neilson delivered an 8-8 tie to Union. The Utes' Brent Labrum and Burke Buckalew connected on field goal attempts, at-tempts, but two free throws by Tracy Dye and a field goal tied the game at 12-12. Brent Labrum put in a two-pointer two-pointer and Clark McClellan performed a keep-the-ball-in-bounds dance and hit a field goal for a 16 to 12 Uintah advantage advan-tage at the end of the first quarter. Uintah burned the Cougars with the fast break as Brent Labrum flipped in a field goal and Hon Gardner popped in two two-pointers early in the second quarter Derrin Gardiner converted 4 free throws and Ron Gardner put in one charity toss for a 27-17 Uintah lead. Four free throws by Clay Harrison and two by Tracy Dye and Steve Robb, and a field goal by Tracy Neilson enabled enabl-ed the Cougars to cut Uintah's lead to five points, 29 to 24, Ron Ellis, Brent Labrum and Burke Buckalew tossed in two-pointers and Clark McClellan flipped flip-ped in a free throw for a nine-point Uintah Uin-tah lead, but field goals by Steve Robb and Tracy Dye narrowed Uintah's advantage ad-vantage to five points, :w to 31 . Joe Gardiner Gar-diner converted two free throws for a 38 to .'il Uintah lead at the end of the second se-cond quarter. Clark McClellan hit a free throw and a field goal, and Union fired in a two-pointer to make the score at the end of the third quarter, Uintah, 51 and Union, 44. The Utes continued where they left off in the third quarter as they outscored Union 9 to 2 in the fourth quarter for a 60 to 46 advantage. Derrin Gardiner gained a three-point play in the nine-point charge by the Utes. However, the Cats refused to give up as they exploded for eight unanswered counters, which cut Uintah's lead to a 60 to 54. Only 2:26 remained in the game and Ron Gardner of Uintah decided it was time to perform the fast break disco as . he scored seven points on two layups and three free throws to make the final score, Uintah, 70 and Union, 55. Derrin Gardiner hit a field goal and Marty Mc-Carrel Mc-Carrel put in a free throw to go along with Ron Gardner's seven-point performance perfor-mance in the Utes' ten-point bombing in the final Vi minutes. Uintah have five hoopsters, Ron Gardner, 14; Derrin Gardiner, 13; Ron Ellis, 10; Brent Labrum 10 and Clark McClellan, 10 in double figures.
