Show Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-3463 i 3 Community will present "Messiah" The Manila High School and the community will present the "Messiah" at the Manila LDS Recreational Hall on December 21, at 6:30 p.m. The LDS Hall was selected as the acoustics are better than the school gymnasium. Ron Hamblin, Manila School's music instructor in-structor is directing the production. Over 40 senior citizens enjoyed a ham Christmas dinner at the Old Timers Center in Manila Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Shortly before the meal was completed the Manila High School chorus arrived singing Christmas carols. Mimeographed sheets of Christmas carols were distributed to the senior citizens and they were invited to sing along. Ron Hamblin, music director for the high school, directed and accompanied ac-companied the singers. After the entertainment by the high school students, the evening was spent playing bingo. A farewell testimonial meeting will be held at the Manila LDS Chapel on Sunday, December 16 at 6 p.m. for Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Biorn. The couple will be leaving soon for an 18 month mission to Little Rock, Arkansas. An open house will be held following the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Biorn have been residents of Manila for the past 40 years. Mr. Biorn is retired from the timber business, but still does some construction work. Mrs.- Biorn has served as a Stake missionary and has looked forward to going on a full mission. Mrs. John Parker and children visited with Mrs. Parker's mother, Mrs. Beatrice Reed, in Manila this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lambert of Salt Lake City, are parents of a girl born Thursday, December 6, in Salt Lake City. She weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and will be named Chantel. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Q. Cannon Lambert of Salt Lake City, and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. BurlTwitchell of Manila. Her maternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Biorn of Manila. The McKinnon and Manila Mutuals will hold a Green River LDS Stake Snow Party all afternoon and evening of Dec. 22. The snow party will be at McKinnon and a dance will be at Manila that evening at the LDS Recreation Hall. The bookmobile will be in Manila on December 21. The M & L Homemakers Club will hold the annual Christmas Party at the Villa Cafe on December 20. This is the night secret pal's names will be revealed. The Manila girls lost their game to Duchesne last Friday night by a score of 44-45. Many of the girls fouled out. Blenda Larsen was high point scorer with 35 points. The Manila boys participated in a basketball tournament in Baggs, Wyoming on Friday . December 7. They placed third. They will play St. Joseph at Manila on December 12 and at Altamont on December 14. December 15, the boys will travel to Mt. View, Wyoming to play. On December 17, the junior varsity: boys and girls will play against the USD: at Manila. The Manila Elementary School and Mrs. Rosser's Dancing school will; present a Christmas program December 19. Santa will be there and' the community is invited. ' Manila people have enjoyed warmer weather the past week. The high for the-week the-week was 52 degrees. There are a lot of. bare spots as the snow has melted-except melted-except where it has drifted or is in the: shade most of the day. It stayed on the houses on the northeast side for most of the week, as it had frozen near the edge and held the snow. The lowest nighttime temperature was 23 degrees on December 5. |
