Show SU forensics team adds another trophy petition." Chris Lathrop, a junior from Orem, and Kevin Astle, a freshman from Sandy, finished second in senior NDT. They were followed by third place SUSC students Kenny Harvey and Jerome Romero, both freshmen from West Jordan. Romero took first place honors in NDT speaker points; Harvey was second. SUSC sophomores Kim-michelle Kim-michelle DeAdder, Orem, and Dennis Beasley, American Fork, won first place in junior division CEDA competition. Karen Reeves, a sophomore from Cedar City, and Annette Chilinski, a junior from West Jordan, were third. Ms. Reeves was first place in junior division speaker points; Ms. Chilinski was second. In senior division CEDA competition Scott Pullan and Craig LeDuc finished in fourth place. Pullan is a sophomore from South Jordan; LeDuc, a senior from West Jordan. Three SUSC students made it to the finals in individual events: Kay-ron Kay-ron Madson, a senior from Payson, in expository ex-pository speaking; Kim-michelle Kim-michelle DeAdder in poetry interpretation; and Mitch Connell, a sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz., in oratory. There are nine sweepstakes trophies in the Southern Utah State College forensic display, the most recent won at the University of San Francisco. If SUSC pulls off a sweepstakes win at the upcoming Desert Classic, the squad will end the forensic season with 10 eonsecutive first place wins. "A sweepstakes win at the University of Arizona would be a good one, one well earned," said M. L. Smith, SUSC forensic coach. "We've never won there before, so we'd like to take it." The Air Force Academy is a prime contender for sweepstakes sweep-stakes at the Tucson tournament. Smith said that the tournament wcould end up being a one-on-one contest between bet-ween SUSC and the Air Force which recently dropped Greater Salt Lake to the T-Birds. "Tucson is a good upper-level tournament," Smith said. "We'll go in with around 22 students, a strong enough squad to pull off the victory if we're lucky." The Desert Classic is the final regional tournament tour-nament of the year. Nationals in individual events and debate follow soon after. "We're basically gearing down tournament wise," Smith said, "and gearing up for the nationals." SUSC defeated Humboldt College for the San Francisco sweepstakes. sweep-stakes.
