Show Resort a plus? Editor: I would like to respond to Met Johnson's Record, Feb. 19 letter to the editor, or to anyone else who believes that Engen Mountain Ski Resort would be a plus. First of all we, the members of the Association to Save - Cedar Canyon, believe the same as you do. We want the canyon left as it is so "many of us can go to the canyon and enjoy developed facilities with our families, our social groups, church groups, associations, or other planned group reunions." Are you aware that if the college land is sold or traded to the developers that it will become private property and most likely be developed? The majority of the land in the Wood's Ranch area is public property (SUSC, USU, Iron County, BLM, and Dixie National Forest). The few landowners lan-downers in the area could really make some big money from land sales and condo sales if the ski resort got an "okay", but they don't want to. Concerning the BLM's Environmental En-vironmental Assessment, you obviously did not read it or you would agree that the affects on Cedar Canyon are mostly negative. In the assessment it mentions men-tions nothing about only Phase I being applied for. It lists all development through Phase III. In reference to Mr. Croft calling himself an expert, the public might want to know that Mr. Croft called himself an expert on the topography of Black Mountain at a City Council meeting four weeks ago. Mr. Lundburg only said that most of the problems stated could be solved if the resort is done right. This resort would not be free to our community. Who will pay for a sewage outfall line to Cedar City? Who will pay for a new sewage treatment treat-ment plant when the present one is not large enough? Who will pay to have the road widened up Cedar Canyon? Who will pay for services such as law enforcement, en-forcement, fire protection, snow removal, trash collection, etc? The greatest cost will be for the loss of our beautiful canyon. The price is too much for a marginal ski area. Besides, who wants to see anything like Brian Head in Cedar Canyon?
