Show Contest planned Utah State University will again be sponsoring a quilt contest as a part of the Festival of the American West held July 31 through Aug. 8 on the USU campus. The USU Quilt Contest, organized by state and county extension agents, will feature prizes of $200 for first place, $100 for second, $50 for third and four $25 prizes. The USU Quilt Contest, which starts at the county level, is subject to the following rules As opposed to previous years, quilts may be made from either original or traditional patterns. It must be pieced, hand embroidered, hand appliqued or any com bination of these methods. Quilt tops alone will not be accepted. The quilt must be hand quilted, not machine, tied or yarn quilted. It may be made by an individual or group. Each contestant must participate in one of the eight area county quilt contests. The quilt must have been made within the last three years and cannot have been entered in a previous USU Quilt Contest. All contestants must be Utah residents. A story explaining why the quilt was made, cost of materials, who helped in construction, time spent in production and overall inspiration for the pattern should be submitted with the entry. Judging for the state winners will take place the week prior to the Festival of the American West. |
