Show Council tightens trash policy Since the landfill is outside the city limits, the city will be working with the county to enforce the rules on garbage dumping. dum-ping. If citizens do not comply, said Dalton, the cost of garbage collection will go up. Also, the council pointed out that a resolution has been passed that requires builders to have a dumpster at building sites so construction waste can be properly handled. By CHRISTINE TOPHAM Record Correspondent The Parowan City Council in its meeting Feb. 18 was told that the town has a serious garbage gar-bage problem. Sherman Dalton, owner and operator of J & D Sanitation, told the council members that he had received letters from the state health department depart-ment requiring that changes must take place. Items such as grass clippings, trees and limbs can be hauled to the city's landfill, but no household garbage of any kind will be allowed in the future. Instead, the city has asked that residents set their household garbage out so that it can be picked up by the sanitation crews. Another problem that Dalton pointed out is that people are dumping their garbage at the gate when the fill is closed. Then the garbage is blown all over the road, along the fences and onto the hills surrounding the dump, making it impossible im-possible to clean up. |
