Show Lady Red Nielsen gets Athlete nod It's hard to get recognition on a well-balanced well-balanced team. And there's no better balanced team in the county this year than Cedar High School's girls' basketball squad.' On any given night, one of four or five Lady Reds could be leading the team in scoring-though the team typically places two but more often or three in double figures. That's unusual for a girls' basketball team. It's too bad on a team like this that it takes a performance like Kathy Nelson's 22-point outburst last week against Dixie to get someone's attention, but it did. Kathy has been selected as the Iron County Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21, for her role in Cedar's eight-point win. Kathy has been a rock- solid performer all season, usually scoring in the 7-12 point range, and also rebounding well. Her play has contributed con-tributed to the Lady Reds' solid second place standing in the Region Six Southern Division right now. The Lady Red will receive a certificate from The Iron County Record recognizing her selection. Others considered for the award: -Arnold Pleasant, who fought his way to a Utah State Golden Gloves boxing championship last weekend. -Gloria Grover of the SUSC women's basketball basket-ball team, whose 20 points (10-for-13 shooting) and 10 rebounds helped her team to an astonishing 80-79 80-79 upset win over powerful Western State on the road last week. |
