Show Lady Reds de-winff Fivers Behind Kathy Nelson's 22-point scoring attack, Cedar High's Lady Reds downed the girls' team from Dixie by a score of 53-45. The game, played on Feb. 18 in Cedar, was one well illustrating the aggressive rivalry. The two teams had met once previously this . season. Dixie had been the victor in the first matchup by a narrow one-point margin. Cedar dominated throughout the entire game, the victory coming rather easily. Dixie did challenge once in the second quarter and pulled to within three. They trailed by just five at halftime. Nelson, along with the rest of the CHS squad, took charge in the second half. Nelson scored eight points in the third quarter and six more in the fourth to pace her team's efforts. ef-forts. CHS spent the third quarter racking up points against the frustrated Dixie team. The girls from Cedar led by 10 points going into the final period. Cedar made some mistakes but Dixie was unable to capitalize on them. Cedar played quite poor defense and fouled the Dixie squad continuously. con-tinuously. But Dixie's foul shots didn't drop and they were forced to commit one turnover after another, losing control of their play. The game was an intense in-tense battle, the players quietly determined in their play, for the most part. With 3:00 left in the fourth quarter, Cedar was sitting on top of a 17-point 17-point lead. Dixie went on to score nine unanswered points, only to lose by eight at the final buzzer. Nelson's 22 point-outburst point-outburst was aided by Jill Rollo and Tori Brinkerhoff, who added 10 and eight points respectively to CHS |
