Show ' ) j The Joseph Carl Felix family was recently chosen as the Family of the Year for the Iron Mission Region of the Utah Association of Women, and is now nominated for the Utah State honor. The family said the above picture is ten years old, which is the last time they were all together. However, a gathering and another picture are planned for next month. Family of the Year cited Lake City where the pair is continuing studies at the University of Utah. Jeffery Felix, 24, is presently attending graduate school at BYU to complete a Ph.D. in physics. David C. Felix, 22, will graduate from Southern Utah State College this spring. Daren E. Felix, 21, is currently serving a mission ' in Valencia, Spain. Adele Felix, 19, is presently employed at the Hair Lab in Cedar City. . Sheri Felix, 17, and Ben G. Felix, 15, are students at Cedar High School. Michael Felix, 11, is a student at South Elementary School. The family boasts of six Eagle Scouts. There have also been ten missionaries for the LDS Church from the family, including two sons-in-law and mom and dad. According to spokeswoman Ann Hansen, the family was chosen because of its strength and unity and its committment to service. ser-vice. "We believe in the strength of the family. If the family is strong, the community is strong, the state is strong and the nation is strong," said Hansen. As the Cedar City family chosen for this honor, the Felixes will next be considered for the" Utah Family of the Year. Mr. Felix was born in Logan and was educated in Logan City schools. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in World War II and as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas and Louisiana from 1948 to 1950. He married the former Alene Edwards in the Salt Lake Temple in 1951. The couple were united by Elder Spencer W. Kimball. The parents of six boys and four girls celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary Feb. 7. Mr. Felix has taught seminary at Provo and was the principal of the seminary at Ashton, Idaho. He was the director of institute at Flagstaff, Ariz., and Cedar City. He is presently an instructor at the Cedar City Institute, having served 26 years in the church education system. His' church assignments assign-ments have included a teacher in most auxiliaries, ward and stake i clerk, Aaronic Priesthood .advisor, explorer advisor, bishop's counselor, bishop, high councillor and couselor in a stake presidency. Mrs. Felix was born in Provo to Philo T. and Addie Gurr Edwards, coming from a family of 14 children. She attended Brigham Young University and served an LDS mission to Texas and Louisiana in 1949 and 1950. She has served in many church capacities, including in-cluding teacher in most of the auxiliaries, and president of the Primary and Mutual. She has helped to organize many community com-munity drives such as the Heart Fund and March of Dimes. She is a talented vocalist and has sung at 'many functions throughout the community. com-munity. J. Brent Felix, 29, their oldest child, is married to the former Loralyn Urie. He is presently a jeweler and watchmaker. Rozan Felix Gautier, 27, and her husband and three children are living in Hanford, Calif. Jolyn Felix Russel, 26, and her husband and two children are living in Salt |
