Show LITTLE ARMY ARRIVES FROM SALT LAKE march from lagoon at night and make the distance in five hours from thursdays standard late yesterday afternoon a dusty tired contingent of the future mens club 40 boys in all of salt lake bended wended their way into ogden and pitched camp for the night on a vacant lot on south washington avenue near thirtieth street later another contingent arrived while early this morning the last of the boys reached ogden they having camped for part of the night at syracuse altogether 67 are in the party together with about thirty seven ogden boys they will camp tor the next two weeks on the south fork or the ogden river by the kindness of mr bamberger of tho salt lake ogden road the boys were given transportation as far as lagoon completing the rest of the journey on foot they were a picturesque lot of boys who assembled on grant avenue after breakfast and from there marched to the cars which were to take them to glenwood park where they will spend the day resting arom the fatigue of the march from lagoon to ogden clad in blue uniforms with their blanket rolls slung true soldier fashion across their shoulders the boys excited much curiosity and some envy among the own boys who are not members of the party the ogden boys who are to camp with the salt lake outfit assembled at methodist church this morning at and under the leadership of professor walter underwood marched to the camp ground in the canyon where they will erect tents and prepare for the reception of their salt lake compatriots who will arrive in camp late this evening once in camp mr F J lucas of salt lake who engineered the organizing of the movement will take charas and will at once organize a city government for the camp A mayor city council chief of police and police judge will be elected and will have charge of the discipline of the camp and all offenders will be dealt with by them the boys will do their own cook ing a detail being appointed each day to do ane necessary work there will be noi regular routine but the time will be spent by boys in fishing and athletic sports A baseball league of four teams has been formed and each day games will be played for the championship of the camp and there will also be held various other athletic sports mr lucas of the salt lake Y M C A who Is in direct charge of the party stated this morning that the tramp from lagoon was made in five hours and that the smaller boys in the party had stood the long march from lagoon to ogden much better than had the older boys and that they wanted to push on to the camp today but that he was afraid they would overtax their strength so that he was going to make them rest and then march during the evening they will leave glenwood at 7 p m As an experiment the encampment of the boys will be watched with interest as it disbelieved believed Is that it will promote an interest among the boy that will be of great benefit in keeping them out of mischief during the remainder of the summer |
