Show W abken PAINFULLY HURT AT WILSONS QUARRY efant powder caps explode in his pocket and hand Is terribly torn y from tuesdays standard an old man named W alken otiose residence ts at 1923 steele avenue was painfully injured at Wll sons quarry in the canyon yesterday afternoon by the explosion of some giant powder caps which he as carrying in his pocket at the time the caps are aed for igniting the blasts and about 4 in the afternoon mr alken had completed his work and was preparing to leave he had placed abo caps in his pocket when suddenly there was a report and mr aiken was thrown violently to the ground employees of the sanitarium rushed to the scene and found that mr alken had been injured he was taken to the where it was found that two fingers of his left hand had boon blown away and that the hand had been terribly mashed dr powers waa immediately summoned and upon his arrival found it necessary to amputate the two fingers he also found that the mans ide had been injured from the explosion but the injury was not of a serious nature the mans hand is so badly injured however that it may bo found necessary to amputate tha entire band at a late hour mr aiken was reported to be resting as comfortably aa could be expected and although ha s man old in years no serious results are anticipated |
